Impressions of Truman as a Math Teacher or Math Tutor

This is a page where people who worked with me as either their Math Teacher or Math Tutor can leave their comments about me.  I only ask that you sign your full name, or, if you'd rather, sign your first name and last initial and just make clear when or where we worked together.

Thanks much.

  1. Truman came into my 9th grade math classroom partway through the year, after another teacher had left the school in frustration. We were, in all probability, the algebra class from hell--poorly organized, uninterested, and frankly rude to our ex-teacher and now to this new guy. We would sleep in class, ignore what we were told, and barely pay attention.

It took a while, to be sure, but Truman took the time and effort necessary to make us learn. I can't say I ever became a particularly successful math student (I doubt I ever received higher than a B in any of my math classes before or since) but by the end of the year, I was competent in algebra. More than that, our class began to behave like civilized people, because Truman earned our respect and eventually, we wanted to earn his.
